This site is not yet “done”. There is a long to-do list, and here are some of the features that are planned to be worked on in the near future.

Improved “rides” page

The page that currently shows the list of rides is going to be entirely remade to be more flexible, more powerful, more useful, and overall, better. In addition to showing rides as a list as it currently does, it will also be able to show rides on a calendar, or on a searchable and sortable table.

This is a screenshot of one prototype of a calendar that is currently being experimented with. The calendar part (on the left) shows three aspects of individual rides with the number (distance), bottom bar (duration) and background colour (training load). These will be configurable, so other features of rides can be shown, such as intensity (either from power data or RPE) or whether or not it was completed according to the training plan.

The middle section (the four thin columns) show the training cycles. It’s not yet finished, but the plan is to properly support training periodisation. By the way, support for training periodisation will be much more extensive than just this calendar.

The section on the right is a summary of a training cycle, in this case the week (microcycle). Here it shows the total duration for the week and how that is distributed between the power zones, but it will be able to be configured to show other things too.

Here’s a screenshot of another calendar prototype. It shows more detail about individual activities, but less summary data. The coloured bar shows the proportion of time spent in each power zone.

The uploading functionality will also see a big upgrade. Expect to be able to change the name and description of a ride without having to go into it, and also choose which rides are uploaded to Strava (and whether or not power and heart rate data are sent to Strava).

Training plans and manual rides

Training plans and manually entered rides will also be coming with the new “rides” page. Therefore, it will be possible for you or your coach to add descriptions of the rides you will do in advance, and it will also be possible to manually add rides without uploading a recording of the ride.

Segments

Segments are parts of rides which can be defined and then compared over time. One obvious use is tracking power based intervals, for it will be possible to chart the average power for all, say, four minute intervals. Someday it might also be possible to have segments automatically created by matching GPS data against predefined tracks.

Improved charts

Many of the charts are due for updates. Amongst other things: The main ride chart will be getting custom smoothing and the option to show the distance on the x-axis. The training load chart will show more data and be integrated with training periodisation. The power curve chart will be able to compare any ride/period with any other ride/period. The histograms will be able to show custom bucket sizes.

Flexicharts

The prioritisation of development of Flexicharts has been to first make them powerful, then make them usable. Two important features to be added that will make them much more user friendly will be a library of charts, including predefined charts and the ability to save charts, and a simple chart creator to make it possible to create many charts with a few clicks.

And there’s more

There’s custom data series for tracking all sorts of fitness related variables like V02max, body fat %, training willingness, sleep duration and anything else. There’s a small app that automatically uploads rides. There’s a tool for comparing segments or rides in great detail. There’s a refresh of the basic layout this site uses to use space more efficiently. I could go on…

These features aren’t listed in any particular order, and the order in which they’re developed isn’t yet decided. The new “rides” page and, in particular, support for training rides is very high priority. Segments will probably appear quite soon too, as they’re almost finished.
